Tractors were being put into operations on a 24 hour basis as weather conditions continue favorably.

Hard hit during the past years were the cotton and the corn' growers. According to latest figures however, an all time high cotton acreage allocation will be planted by Mamou area farmers this With a good season, the cotton harvest should reach top production, and erase crop failures, of past seasons, for area farmers. Farmers have just about com. pleted preparation of their land for spring planting; spring planting of all crops, mainly; cotton, corn and rice is on schedule; almost all of the corn has been planted and weather conditions have been favorable; about 40 percent of the cotton crop has been planted in spite of recent heavy rains; and the rice crop is, approximately 50 percent planted. Mamou plans cancer crusade MAMOU (Spl) Plans for the area's participation in the Cancer "Society Crusade which began in the parish on April 1, were announced this week by Mrs.

BE IT RESOLVED by the Police Jury of the Parish of St. Landry, State of Louisiana, in regular session assembled, that permission is hereby granted to the Opelousas Kiwanis Club to conduct its annual Jim Bowie Sports Car Races at the St. Landry Parish Airport on May 2 and 3, 1964, this permission being granted with the understanding that the Opelousas Kiwanis Club agrees to hold the St. Landry Parish Police Jury harmless from any type of liability insurance, liability injury, property damage, and the products liability.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Opelousas Kiwanis Club secure insurance in the amount required by the Sports Car Club of America and that the St. Landry Parish Police Jury be specified as a named insured under the said policy of insurance. Haas, be and he is hereby authorized to enter into negotiations with the Federal Aviation Agency for the elimination from use and maintenance of all runways and taxiways on the St. Landry Parish Airport excepting the North South runway and related taxiways. DOUCET, Secretary RESOLUTION On motion by Mr. 'Vernon Schwartzenburg, duly seconded by Mr. Oscar Rivette, the following resolution was offered for adoption. BE IT RESOLVED by the Police Jury of the Parish of St. Landry, State of Louisiana, in regular session assembled that permission is hereby granted the City of Opelousas to install poles for a high voltage transmission line along the north side of the Garland Belt Road between the road ditch and the property line from the corporate limits of the City of Opelousas at Raymond Street running west a distance of approximately 2500 feet to a point or location where the Central Louisiana Electric Company line now crosses the Garland Belt Road.

This permission is being granted with the understanding that in the event any of the poles have to be relocated the work must be done by the city at its own expense. It is further understood that the PErish of St. Landry must be saved free from any and all damages in the construction of this project. Odom, for drainage purposes through his property in Section 55, T-6-S-R-1-E and Section 48, T-7 S-R 1-E St. Landry and Acadia Parishes, be and the same is hereby ac cepted and that the said Right-of-Way Grant be recorded in the Clerk of Court's Office of this parish.

BE IT RESOLVED by the Police Jury of the Parish of St. Landry, State of Louisiana, in regular session assembled, that permission is hereby granted to the 'American Louisiana Pipe Line Company to construct a 20" natural gas line extending from a point of connection with its presently existing pipe line in the Parish of St. Landry in Section 49, Township South, Range 5 East, in a southeasterly direction for a distance of approximately six and one-half miles to the Parish Line between the Parishes of St. Martin and St. Landry in Section 30, Township 7 South, Range 6 East.

This permission is being granted with the understanding that the pipe line nlust be at least 30" below the surface of all roads. The roads are to be bored, cased and vented. Haas, duly seconded by Mr. Vernon Schwartzenburg, the following resolution was offer- ed for adoption: BE IT RESOLVED by the Police Jury of the Parish of St. Landry, State of Louisiana, in regular session convened, that Section 1. That acting under the authority of a special election held in Fire Protection District No. 3 of the Parish of St.

Landry, State of Louisiana, on October 18, 1960 a special tax of one (1) mill on the dollar of the assessed valuation of all the taxable property in said Fire Protection District No. 3 be and the same is hereby levied, assessed and imposed on said property for the year 1964, for the purpose of paying the principal and interest on One Hundred Ten Thousand Dollars of Public Improvement Bonds of said Fire Protection District No. 3 dated February 1, 1961, issued for the purpose of acquiring, buildings, machinery and equipment, including both real and personal property, to he used in giving fire protection to the property in the district. Section 2. That the proper administrative officers of the Parish of St.

Landry, Louisiana, be and they are hereby empowered, authorized and directed to spread said taxes, as hereinabove set upon the Assessment Roll of said Parish for the year 1964, and to make the collection of the taxes imposed for and on behalf of said Fire Protection District, according to law and that the taxes herein levied shall become a permanent lien and privilege on all property subject to taxation as herein set forth, and the collection thereof shall be enforceable in the manner provided, by "law. That acting under the authority of a special elect-ion held jn-East St. Landry Consolidated Gravity Drainage District No. 1 of the Parish of St. Landry, State of Louisiana, on March 18, 1952, a special tax of 3 mills on the dollar of the assessed valuation of all the taxable property in said Gravity Drainage District be and the same is hereby levied, assessed and imposed on said property for the year 1964, for the purpose of paying the principal and interest of Seventy Thousand ($70,000.00) Dollars of Public Improvement Bonds of said Gravity Drainage District.
